About Wild Theatre

Theatre manager Yaroslava Kravchenko founded Wild Theatre in 2016 with one idea: to make shows without pretension, moralising or false modesty. Within a few years the theatre grew into a genuine cultural phenomenon with an audience across the whole of Ukraine.

The lead director Maksym Holenko is among the top ten directors in the country. The company has around 120 actors selected through open auditions - the first theatre in Ukraine to work this way. The repertoire consists of sharp, socially engaged and sometimes radical productions based on works by contemporary Ukrainian and international authors: from Martin McDonagh to young Ukrainian playwrights who are staged nowhere else.

The programme covers theatre shows in a wide range of genres and formats: drama, dark comedy, fashion drama, immersive theatre and audio quests. Age ratings of 16+ and 18+ are not a marketing device but an honest warning: some productions are so viscerally realistic they can be psychologically intense. The theatre is upfront about this.

Awards include the Kyivska Pektoral festival, the British Council "Taking the Stage" programme, Grand Prix of the "Eastern Express" festival and "Melpomene of Tavria". In 2026 the show "Lord of the Flies" (Volodar mukh) was longlisted for the GRA festival-prize. "Kitsyunya" appeared on the list of the best Ukrainian productions of the 2000s according to the critics' ranking "Kyiv Score".

Wild Theatre has no permanent home, and this is a deliberate choice. Shows are staged wherever they will have the greatest impact: at Stsena 6 (1 Vasylkivska St, Holosiivska metro), Freedom Hall, Ivan Franko National Theatre, the National Circus, clubs Atlas and Sentrum, and sometimes in Kyiv Zoo or other non-theatrical venues.

Dyka Shkola - theatre school by Wild Theatre

In January 2021 Wild Theatre opened "Dyka Shkola" (Wild School), a training programme for people who want to learn acting, stage speech, movement, screen work and playwriting.
